Engagement // Kiersten + Nathan

On a very rainy day in February I went out with these two to explore Long Island City, Greenpoint and my very own neighborhood of Williamsburg. To say they were troopers is an understatement. New York City is cold in February and if you bring in the wind and rain to the equation I'm pretty sure most folk would settle for sitting inside with a nice cup of coffee. Instead it ended up being such a fun time that we didn't even realize how pink our fingers were until the very end and I'm going to chalk that up to love. The reason I love my job so much and the reason I'm more excited than ever to see these two hitched later this year.

 Congratulations, Kiersten + Nathan!

Wedding // Angela + Albert

Angela + Albert were married in August at their alma mater, Columbia University, followed by a beautiful reception at New Leaf Restaurant.  My scouting for their wedding was some of the most fun I've done and I'm kicking myself that it took me so long to get to the Cloisters.   It's gorgeous up there and I felt like I was hours outside of the city.   Angela was stunning and so calm and collected as she got ready with her bridesmaids at the Gramercy Park Hotel.  By the time Albert arrived (by vintage taxi!) everything was picture perfect.  The first look was romantic and emotional and the whole day followed suit.  We even found the best model, a Great Dane, in the West Village to add to the wedding day portraits.  By the end of the night after heartfelt toasts, delicious food, and awesome dancing the sparkler exit added yet another perfect touch to a beautiful day.

Congratulations Angela + Albert!

+ Ryan & Heidi also made a beautiful video of the day if you would like to see it.  A+A
+ This wedding was also featured on Style Me Pretty!
+ Last, but not least... photobooths are fun!

Featured // Brooklyn Bride

Sarah + Sam's gorgeous wedding is featured today on Brooklyn Bride and I wanted to share a few more words about it.   At our initial meeting Sarah told me that her grandparents had first met at the Brooklyn Navy Yard so the location was really special to them.  I was hooked on their story and had to share.  Here's Sarah's take on their wedding:

For being the most indecisive person around, saying yes when Sam proposed was the easiest decision I've ever made.  Wedding planning was not as easy.  We wanted our wedding to feel like a fancy backyard dinner party but we were both very particular about the venue.  We wanted something that didn't feel staged for a wedding.  We had been living in Brooklyn for over three years and I have strong family ties to the naval yard.  So since we weren't planning on getting married in my hometown, the Brooklyn Navy Yard would still provide some family history.  BLDG92 was actually the first place we looked but it wasn't open yet so we kept looking...for months. Right as we were about to push the wedding back to the following summer/fall when we checked the BLDG92 website again and it was finally open!  Once we found out our favorite neighborhood restaurant had a cafe at the museum and would handle the event, the rest came together very quickly.

My grandparents, Frank and Mary C. Miller met during WWII at the BNY in 1945.  Frank Miller, a Chief Petty Officer, had just returned from a supply trip to Africa and rather than take the allowed R&R time, (this was wartime), went to put his papers in requesting assignment to the next ship going out. On the way out of the Admiral’s office, he saw Mary Belcastro in the typing pool and immediately went back and took his papers off the desk.  75 days later, after a whirlwind courtship, Frank and Mary C. Miller were married and shared 56 years of happiness.

It was amazing to be married where my grandparent's life together began and to have my 92 year old grandmother as the guest of honor.  If Sam and I can have half of the good times my grandparents shared, I'd consider us pretty fortunate.

Isn't that amazing?  Thank you, Sarah, for sharing and congratulations to you both!

Wedding // Natalie + David

Natalie + David got married on a gorgeous day in July at the Grecian Shelter in Prospect Park.  It was such a beautiful ceremony, officiated over by David's father, and the bride and groom looked stunning! They also picked up a few extra guests along the way as nearby birthday parties and soccer matches came over to see what was happening.  A real park wedding!  Everyone cheered as they kissed (a few kids said "eww!") and the whole thing made me really happy to be in Brooklyn.  After the ceremony everyone headed to one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn, Frankie's Spuntino 457, for a delicious meal with lots of hugs and well wishes all around.

Congratulations Natalie + David!

Wedding // Jessica + Will

You might recognize these two from their engagement shoot.  Such effortless style and a genuine love for each other.  I had the pleasure of shooting their wedding at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture.  A great venue that was only made better with Jessica's creative eye.   I had been waiting with great anticipation for all the details since Jessica works for Martha Stewart and I knew it was going to be good!  A great surprise of the wedding (for me) was that Jessica's mother made her dress.  I was blown away!

Congratulations Jessica + Will!
